MRC exists because we believe
that many missionaries return from the field tired and discouraged,
needing a helping-hand and a listening-ear.
We help missionaries find cars, houses, medical assistance, a place to vacation, we give a rides to the airport, help unload a truck if they’re moving or help take care of children. Or we tell them about things like theTCK Reentry Retreat for MKs returning from the field to attend college. (For more information on these things visit our website www.mrcofnc.org)
Often we spend time with missionaries to listen and pray with them. But we are convinced that many missionaries need more than just a few minutes of listening and praying together. What they really need is spiritual refreshment. They need some extra time to process and think through all that has happened during the past several years on the field. Sometimes they need confirmation concerning returning to the field or what the future holds. And this can all happen at what we refer to as a Debrief Retreat.
What is a debriefing retreat?
I always tell people that it is more of a Retreat than a Debrief. It’s not so much a time of someone asking you a lot of questions, as it is a time for you to unpack and process what has happened on the field. Missionaries need time to get away and be alone with the Lord, but most never get it because they are busy and it never gets the priority it needs. And being in a retreat setting means that other missionaries are there too, which adds another healthy dimension.
A NEW VISION:
You guessed it. Debriefing Retreats!! In the last several months I have become increasingly convinced that by far the most useful, beneficial, practical, spiritual, eternally significant service that we have to offer to Missionaries is a Debriefing Retreat where they can relax, unpack the years they’ve had on the field, and be spiritually refreshed.
Therefore, my first priority as I think of the future of MRC is to develop… a high-quality, unrushed, local, timely, affordable Debrief Retreat for every missionary in this part of the country who desires one.
- High-Quality - using the Le Rucher Debriefing model
- Unrushed - five days in length, not just a few hours
- Local - available in a local setting, without flying thousands of miles
- Timely - offered frequently enough to fit into the schedule of busy missionaries
- Affordable Price
To see the vision above become a reality, we need - more trained debriefers, more places to hold the retreats and people spreading the word.
Pray also for us in the coming week (May 17-22). We will gather in north GA for a debriefing retreat with 5 missionaries to be debriefed. Pray for great spiritual refreshing for these precious servants, and for God's direction for those leading this retreat.
