Debriefing Children At the Global Member Care conference in Turkey last month, Linn and I attended a seminar on creative ways to debrief people, which included ideas which are also useful with children. For the past week, Linn has been in Atlanta helping debrief a family of five. Her purpose in going was to focus on the three children. At first it may seem a little strange to talk about debriefing children, but as we think about it becomes obvious that this is a needed thing. Debriefing is basically giving people an opportunity to unpack and process their experiences and emotions about what they’ve gone through. When parents are hurting and frustrated the children often pick up the same attitude. But sadly, too often it’s assumed that the children are doing fine when really they too may be struggling, but are not able to express it. It worked well for Linn to do some exercises with the three kids last week while a more experienced debriefer/counselor spent time with the parents. Announcing MECNET.ORG In our December update, we mentioned that MRC is associated with a network of Member Care providers called MEC Net. This month, we helped design and launch MECNET.org, an online home for MEC Net and a simple way for people to search and connect with a large number of member care specialists in the eastern US. We hope this site will be a helpful resource as we link arms and support those who are serving overseas. | Our most frequent request! Absolutely the most frequent request we receive here at MRC is, “Do you have a vehicle we can use?” MRC owns one car and we (John & Linn) sometimes loan out our second car, but we’d love to have several more. This is a chronic need for folks coming to the States for a short stay and we’d love to be able to meet more of these needs. Our one vehicle is loaned out right now and is promised to three different families between now and January 2016. Do you have a vehicle which still has some miles left in it which you’d be willing to give to MRC? If so, or if you know of someone who has one they’d like to give, please contact us. Please join us in asking the Lord to provide some other vehicles and someone to help maintain them. Ask the Lord to make us sensitive to other needs in the families to whom we loan vehicles. As we help with the basic need of transportation it often leads to other opportunities for helping and encouraging them. Administrative Assistant Fund We have received $700 in gifts towards our Administrative Assistant Fund for 2015. This expense is not included in our general operation budget. This year we have been offered a matching grant of up to $3,500 for this fund. Let’s continue to ask in faith for the Lord to provide the remaining $2,800! Thank you for your prayers! |
