Praise for another GOOD year of debriefs! God is so faithful to show up and meet missionaries’ needs at these 5 day debriefs. During 2017 we were involved in two group debriefs (a total of 15 individuals) and four individual debriefs (2 couples and 2 singles). We are thankful for this effective debrief model and we ask Him to send people to be debriefed next year so they can unpack their stuff and encounter Him in fresh ways. So far we are planning to be involved in two group debriefs next summer in GA and we have one couple lined up to debrief in our area in January.
Praise for financial provision! Last October we sent out an urgent prayer request for finances and people really rallied to the cause. Beyond our normal monthly gifts, a number of individuals gave significant one time gifts to the tune of $7,000! We are so grateful to the Lord for His faithfulness and ask you to continue to pray with us as our monthly gifts are about $1,000 less than what we need to meet our budget.
Praise for a wonderful consortium!
One of MRC's goals is to help local churches in our area know where they can find help when needs arise with their missionaries. Last spring, we sponsored an event and had four couples attend plus our MRC board. We were all very pleased with that meeting and the consensus was that we need more times of rubbing shoulders with other member care people.
So in November we organized another luncheon and invited Sarah Lanier our Debrief trainer and coach to speak and we had 27 people in attendance. We had several people there who are very experienced in debriefing, others who are experienced in counseling, especially in cross cultural situations, a professor of member care at Columbia International University plus our own MRC medical coach, Dr. Roy Ringenberg. It was a great time of interacting on issues concerning member care and developing a better network for finding help with future needs. We believe the Lord would have us do this kind of meeting again in the future.
Thanks again so much for your financial and prayer support of MRC. May God be glorified as we Member Care folk get better prepared for serving those who serve overseas.
We feel so privileged to be doing what we are doing!
Thankful for YOU and grateful to God,
John and Linn
Praise for new board members and staff!
MRC has been needing some new board members and last week at our meeting we had 4 new board members plus our new administrative assistant. What wonderful and encouraging answers to prayer!
We are happy to have a couple now on board who have served overseas for the past ten years and have focused on international ministry full-time. She is Member Care Coordinator for their organization and we have already been blessed to collaborate together with her this past year. Another Board Member comes from a large local church nearby and has done many short missions trips and helped missionaries in many practical ways like keeping them in her home when stateside. Marabeth Ringenberg is the wife of our MRC doctor/coach, having lived overseas for over 25 years. She has a natural Member Care heart and will bring depth to our insight and endeavors. And our new admin assist, Conner, has just the experience and heart to help us in practical ways with our office management.
Prayer Needed … for finances
Several times in the past years MRC has come to a rather critical point financially. You may remember that on more than one occasion we have said that unless the Lord intervened MRC would not last more than a few months… and each time the Lord has provided in wonderful ways. MRC is His doing and we trust Him to continue meeting our needs. However….
Now we find ourselves in a similar situation but this time it has an additional critical element. In the past we have had a little buffer in the bank to fall back on, but this time that is not true. At the end of 2013 MRC still had $23,000 in the bank. Through the years that buffer has dwindled and now we have only enough in the bank to cover about one month’s expenses.
So please join us in prayer… as we ask Him for:
Oct. 29 – Nov. 3 - Debrief retreat - Next week Linn and I will again be at a debrief in north Georgia. Debriefing seven units (couples or individuals). Please ask the Lord to get these folks there safely as they travel and that each of these will meet the Lord in a new and fresh way as they unpack some of the struggles and challenges they have faced in their overseas experiences.
Here is a testimony from our last debrief: "I can honestly say that during my first month back I did not think I could go back with a willing spirit, but after the retreat I got my excitement back to return to where Father has me serving."
Dec. 5-9 – John and Linn will be doing an individual debrief retreat for a couple back from 33 years of service overseas.
This blog contains the latest MRC news. MRC exists because we believe that many missionaries return from the field tired and discouraged, in need of a helping hand and a listening ear.
